At least two drones “crashed” into Russia’s VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary, a key producer of advanced electronic warfare (EW) systems, Chuvash Republic Governor Oleg Nikolayev reported on June 9.

“A decision was made to temporarily suspend production to ensure the safety of employees,” he claimed.

The Shot Telegram channel reported at least three drones over the city and at least six loud explosions.

Numerous videos of the plant on fire with black smoke rising into the sky were shared by eyewitnesses.

VNIIR-Progress is a major contractor for the Russian Defense Ministry and produces Kometa antennas, which enhance resistance to electronic interference and ensure accurate targeting, even under electronic warfare measures. The Kometa-M system uses CRPA technology to disrupt enemy signals and improve satellite communication. This technology enables Russian Orlan and Shakhed drones and guided bombs to overcome Ukrainian electronic warfare defenses.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
