Russia steps up draft to replace massive casualties
Russia is looking to replace its losses in Bakhmut and other parts of Ukraine by instituting a new wave of draft summons in 33 of 49 Russian regions, Radio Liberty reported on March 15.
Reservists are being asked to come to the military registration and enlistment office to be selected for military training or clarify their draft status.
Summonses were recorded from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Dagestan and Yamal. University students, who are supposed to be deferred from military service, are also receiving draft slips.
There were reports of summonses in the following regions:
- The oblasts of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Belgorod, Voronezh, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Murmansk, Penza, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Ulyanovsk, Saratov,Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Tambov, and Tver;
- and the Okrugs (administrative divisions) of Arkhangelsk, Vladimir, Moscow, Leningrad oblasts, Altai, Perm Krai, Kabardino-Balkar and Chuvash Republics, Dagestan, Tatarstan, Mari El, Komi, Khanty-Mansi, and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
