As Ukrainian troops pushed enemy forces back in Severodonetsk, a Russian artillery strike at Hirske killed four civilians, head of the regional administration Serhiy Hayday said in a Telegram post on June 4.

The Ukrainian counterattack in Severodonetsk reduced Russia’s share of control of the city from 70% to 50%.

“Earlier, the situation (in Severodonetsk) was dire, and the share of captured territory was about 70%, but by now they have been pushed back by about 20%,” said Hayday.

According to him, Russian troops are suffering heavy personnel and armor losses in urban combat.

“They are trying to deploy additional forces to throw at seizing Severodonetsk; but even the ‘DPR’ troops are refusing to fight for ‘LPR’,” Hayday added, referring to the sham republics that Russia created in the parts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts it has occupied since 2014.

In the past 24 hours, Russian artillery fire damaged eight buildings in Hirske, in addition to at least 12 residential high-rises in Severodonetsk and Lysychansk.
