Russian agent sentenced to 15 years for planting hidden cameras on Chernihiv rail line

A 31-year-old woman recruited by Russia’s intelligence
services was sentenced to 15 years in prison for planting hidden video cameras
to help target air strikes on a rail line in Chernihiv
Oblast, Ukraine’s SBU security service said on Feb. 24.
The woman, a former supermarket cashier, was recruited after she sought “easy money” in Telegram channels, the SBU said. Russian handlers noticed her and tasked her with installing a camouflaged, remotely accessible video camera along a section of the railroad so they could monitor train movements and attack rolling stock during train stops.
Investigators said she also tracked the locations of Ukrainian radar installations and surface-to-air missile systems to help Russian missiles and UAVs to bypass Ukraine’s air defenses.
The SBU said it detained the agent in Chernihiv Oblast in
April 2025 while she was preparing for a Russian missile strike. She was
convicted of treason during martial law.
