The Russian army targeted the Nikopol district of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with drones and artillery during an overnight attack, killing one man in the shelling, regional governor Serhiy Lysak reported on Telegram on June 8.

The assault affected the municipalities of Nikopol, Myrove, Marhanets, and Chervonohryhorivka. Not only did the shelling claim a life, but it also left a swath of destruction. A utility company, an infrastructure facility, and an administrative building sustained damages. Additionally, one house was completely destroyed, and five others suffered damage. The offensive also impacted two country houses and two sheds.

Lysak further reported that the shelling disrupted power lines, and authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage.

In a separate but related development, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully neutralized aerial threats by shooting down nine Shahed-131/136 UAVs and one Kh-59 guided missile during the early hours of June 8. Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, confirmed these defensive actions.

Moreover, mobile firing groups of the Armed Forces and electronic warfare systems were active, intercepting targets across the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Poltava, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, showcasing a robust response to the ongoing threats.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
