Facing severe personnel shortages, Moscow now decided to forcibly “mobilize” male patients in hospitals across occupied Donetsk, Ukraine’s General Staff said in a Facebook post on Sep. 5.

“Recently, enemy officers started going into city hospitals and forcibly ‘discharging’ people,” the message said.

“Draft-age men with various conditions and injuries – including combat ones – are being prematurely discharged.”

The General Staff made clear that Russian commanders continue to ignore the needs of their troops in mobilized areas of the illegally occupied Donbas. Among the issues, the soldiers are not getting the same bonus pay that their Russian counterparts are entitled to, and furthermore, they are being offered sub-standard medical treatment.

These disparities have combined to significantly hamper the morale of these troops, the message said.

Russia has been conducting forcible mobilization in occupied Ukrainian territories since 2014.
