A temporary Russian military base at the Illich Steel and Iron Works in occupied Mariupol, Donetsk Oblast, is on fire, as seen in a video posted byMariupol mayoral adviser Petro Andriushchenko via Telegram on Dec. 20.

According to Andriushchenko, Russian troops were stationed at the steel mill.

The official said local Ukrainian resistance movement is behind the fire.

“The premises of a Russian military (base) in Mariupol, located on the territory of Illich Steel and Iron Works, are on fire; Mariupol resistance reports a successful act of sabotage,” Andriushchenko wrote.

He relayed a message from members of the resistance, in which they state that the belongings of the Russian military and everything they managed to loot were set on fire.

“At the Illich Steel and Iron Works, the building (used by Russian) invaders is on fire,” their message says.

“Their belongings and loot are all going up in smoke. We will not specify the cause of the fire, but you need to be more respectful, dear occupiers, more respectful. Danger for Russians is everywhere. And it’s always very unexpected.”

Andriushchenko added that Mariupol is an indomitable city that continues to resist Russian occupation.
