AK-47s, grenades, and a warped view of Ukraine – how the Kremlin has changed its school curriculum
As students return to classes in wartime Russia, the government has overhauled the curriculum against the backdrop of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, incorporating military training and skills, including the handling of automatic weapons, said British intelligence on Sept. 6.
History lessons have also been adjusted to bring them in line with the Kremlin’s views of Ukrainian history.
One section for high school students, titled "Foundations of Life Safety," includes a module on basic military training. This module covers the handling of Kalashnikov rifles, the use of hand grenades, drone operation, and the provision of first aid on the battlefield.
Russian soldiers who have fought in Russia’s war in Ukraine will visit schools to share this knowledge with students.
Military propagandain Russian schools serves the following purposes:
1. To familiarize students with the Kremlin’s perspective on its "special military operation" (Russia’s full-scale war of aggression on Ukraine – ed.).
2. To shape a military worldview among students and to prepare them for future mobilization and deployment.
The inclusion of drone operation in the curriculum underscores their increasing significance on the battlefield and the lessons drawn from Russia’s war on Ukraine.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
