A Russian drone strike on a bridge along the Odesa–Reni highway has forced a temporary closure of two border checkpoints between Ukraine and Moldova, Moldovan border police said on Dec. 18.

At around 4 p.m. local time, Russian UAVs struck the bridge near the Ukrainian village of Mayaky on Highway M-15, which links Odesa to the port city of Reni and beyond to Bucharest, the Border Police said.

“We recommend that people avoid travel to this area and exercise heightened caution,” the message added.

Earlier the same day, Odesa regional governor Oleg Kiper reported that a Russian drone had hit a car carrying a mother and three children in the region, killing them.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” he said.

Later, the Agency for Recovery and Infrastructure Development announced the M-15 highway closure near Mayaky and apologized for the inconvenience.

“We will notify drivers when traffic on this section is restored,” the agency said, asking motorists to plan accordingly.
