Russia cripples rail hubs in Sumy and Kharkiv

Russian forces carried out a series of targeted overnight strikes on railway infrastructure in Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts, Restoration and Communities and Territories Development Minister Oleksii Kuleba reported on Telegram on Oct. 31, posting photos of widespread destruction.
In Sumy, a massive drone attack hit a Ukrzaliznytsia depot servicing local and intercity passenger trains. Kuleba stressed that the facility, where carriages are prepared and undergo technical inspections, was “completely civilian.”
“A massive drone attack destroyed most of the work premises and damaged the Sumy–Kyiv train depot,” he said.
No casualties were reported, as railway employees managed to take shelter before the strike. Despite the attack, passenger service was not interrupted. According to Kuleba, a reserve train from another oblast was dispatched in time, enabling passengers waiting for the morning train to depart for Kyiv as scheduled.
The overnight assault also damaged residential areas in Sumy, where a drone strike on a high-rise building ignited five apartments and seven balconies, injuring 12 people.
In Kharkiv Oblast, Russian drones damaged railway infrastructure in the city of Lozova, causing train delays and route changes.
The enemy also targeted critical and civilian infrastructure, as well as residential buildings in Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa oblasts.
