A Russian fighter jet accidentally dropped a high-explosive bomb on railway tracks in the Yakovlevsky district of Belgorod Oblast during a combat sortie on May 13, derailing a passenger rail bus, Russian Telegram channel MNS reported, citing a source.
According to the outlet, the FAB-500 bomb did not detonate but damaged approximately 25 meters of track. A rail bus carrying 15 passengers was traveling the Razumnoye–Tomarovka route at the time. The driver spotted the track damage and applied emergency braking, but one of the two rail cars derailed.
A 75-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized with multiple injuries.
Belgorod Oblast Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov initially suggested that the derailment may have been caused by a deliberate sabotage on the railway, but subsequently deleted that version of events from his official Telegram channel.
On April 7, Russian Telegram channel Astra reported, citing source analysis, that 17 Russian aerial bombs had "accidentally separated" from aircraft over Russian regions and Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory in 2026.
On March 7, a FAB-500 bomb was reported to have gone off-course near the hamlet of Strelnikov in the Yakovlevsky district of Belgorod Oblast — the same district as the last incident. Including the latest drop, at least 17 Russian FABs have now fallen on Russian or occupied Ukrainian territory this year.
