Russian forces in Mariupol drawing up contingency plans for withdrawal — National Resistance Center
The Russian occupation administration of Mariupol has developed a plan for evacuating the city, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s National Resistance Center, a civil defense organization, reported on July 7.
The invaders’ plans include the evacuation of collaborators, documents, and valuable property to Russia. Cargo operations are being stepped up in the Mariupol port, including the export of grain.
"The National Resistance Center emphasizes that even if traitors of Ukraine escape, they will not be able to evade responsibility," the agency said.
“Each of them will have to answer for their actions.”
Earlier, an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andriushchenko, stated that the occupied city would soon be liberated, as the Russians are running out of funds to finance construction and were delaying salary payments to water utility workers and teachers.
He claimed that Mariupol residents also speculate that the Russian evacuation plans may be linked to an anticipated counter-offensive by Ukrainian forces, which is believed to be imminent.
At least 25,000 people were killed in the city as a result of the Russians' bombing of residential areas and civilian infrastructure when the Russians captured the Ukrainian city in late May 2022, Ukrainian authorities estimate.
To hide the traces of their crimes, the occupation forces brought mobile crematoria to Mariupol and forced local residents to bury the dead in mass graves on the outskirts of the city, Ukrainian authorities say.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
