Ukraine detains FSB infiltrator at Belarus border, facing life in prison
A Russian FSB "mole" within the State Border Guard Service's (SBGS) detachment on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, who was collecting sensitive information about its personnel, phone numbers, call signs, weapons, and security equipment, has been arrested by law enforcement officers, the SBGS reported on Telegram on June 24.
A 40-year-old suspect from Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk Oblast, who held a position as the head of one of the border detachment's branches since 2023, has been arrested.
Authorities believe his mission was to obtain information about the 6th Volyn Border Detachment. He was also instructed by his FSB handlers to identify fortification locations and estimate the number of Ukrainian troops deployed on the border with Belarus.
The agent has been detained and charged with assisting a foreign state and its agents in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine under martial law, in accordance with Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
