Ukraine's General Staff says Russian invaders focusing on Donetsk area

Invading Russian forces continue their offensive actions in the eastern operating area, focusing on the Donetsk area, Ukraine's General Staff said in a Facebook post on May 16.

The Ukrainian military noted that the invaders were using the entire range of weapons available to the, including aircraft, in order to deplete personnel and destroy the fortifications of Ukrainian troops.

"The enemy continues to conduct offensives in the Lyman, Bakhmut and Kurakhove directions. The fighting continues," the report says.

In the Avdiyivka area the enemy retreated to previously occupied positions after suffering losses.

In the Sievierodonetsk, Novopavlivka and Sloviansk areas, the invaders are not conducting active hostilities, but are targeting Ukrainian troop units with artillery fire.

In Mariupol, the enemy is continuing large-scale artillery and air strikes.

"The main efforts of the occupiers are focused on besieging and damaging our units in the area of the Azovstal plant," the General Staff said.
