Russian invaders are attempting to fortify and improve their operational positions in the eastern front of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, in the direction Donetsk, reported the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook on April 6.

The invading forces have launched assaults against Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Popasne, Stepne, Novotoshkivske, Rubizhne, Severodonetsk, and Solodke, though they have been unable to dislodge the Ukrainian defenders, says the General Staff.

Additionally, Russian forces continue to make wide use of weapons prohibited by international humanitarian law, including cluster munitions.

Combat is ongoing in Ukraine’s devastated port city of Mariupol, with Ukrainian defenders still holding the line – preventing an encirclement of the contact line in the Donbas.

“The defenders of the city have been maintaining a heroic defense for more than 40 days, holding back the superior forces of the units of the Russian invaders,” Ukrainian army command noted.

Following the Russian defeat in the Battle of Kyiv, they have withdrawn their forces from the northern front of the war and are believed to be re-deploying them to the East, in order to seize Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts for their puppet authorities.
