Russian invaders kidnap mayor of Dniprorudne
Russian invaders have kidnapped Yevhen Matvieiev, the mayor of the town of Dniprorudne in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, reported the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Oleksandr Starukh in a Facebook post on March 13.
In 2020, Yevhen Matvieiev held was re-elected to the post of mayor of Dniprorudne for the third time, balloting under the auspices of the pro-Russian Opposition Platform - For Life party. He had previously served mayoral terms in Dniprorudne from 2006 to 2015.
The invaders intentions with the kidnapped mayor are currently unknown.
Earlier on March 10 Russian invaders have kidnapped Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Mariupol, who refused to cooperate with the occupiers. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on Western leaders who are still talking to Vladimir Putin to push the Kremlin to release Fedorov, who has been tortured by Russian-backed mercenaries.
