Russian marine confesses to executing Ukrainian POW — video
Public broadcaster Suspilne obtained a video from Ukraine’s SBU security service showing a Russian soldier confessing to the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war. The video was released on Feb. 27.
According to Suspilne, the soldier served with Russia’s 810th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade. He claims the killing occurred on Dec. 21, 2024, in Kursk Oblast.
The Russian serviceman stated that the Russian army captured two Ukrainian fighters. One, who was severely wounded, was tied to a tree, while the other was taken "for evacuation."
After returning, he received an order to shoot the injured prisoner of war.
“I contacted my second platoon commander, call sign Gyurza,” the soldier says in the video.
“He ordered me to shoot the [Ukrainian] serviceman who had a leg shrapnel wound. After that, I shot the serviceman. I admit my guilt and am ready to face the punishment provided by law.”
Investigators confirmed that during the killing, the Ukrainian soldier was lying on the ground with his hands tied behind his back and face down.
The enemy soldier in the video was captured by Ukrainian Special Operations Forces in December 2024. He is currently facing murder charges for the killing of the Ukrainian POWs.
Authorities are also working to identify the Russian serviceman from the second platoon of the fifth battalion of the brigade, call sign Gyurza, who gave the execution order.
