Several Russian military commanders were killed in a Ukrainian attack on positions in the occupied town of Shaktarsk in Donetsk Oblast, the Center for Strategic Communications, or Stratcom, said in a Telegram messenger post on July 12.

Shaktarsk is about 50 kilometers behind enemy lines, to the east of the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk. Stratcom said the Ukrainian strike had been carried out using U.S.-supplied HIMARS artillery weapons.

It noted that all of the deputy commanders of the 106th Russian airborne division were killed, except for one. The latter, with the nom de guerre Barsuk (Badger), has been hospitalized in a serious condition.
