Russian shelling hinders evacuation in Kharkiv Oblast
Civilian evacuation from around Kupiansk, Kharkiv Oblast, is becoming increasingly challenging as Russian forces target crossings over the Oskil River, Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Synehubov said on Oct. 23.
“Yesterday, the enemy struck the crossings over Oskil, complicating evacuation efforts,” Synehubov told Ukrainian TV broadcasters.
“However, we are working on restoring logistical connections,” Synehubov said.
On his Telegram channel, Synehubov reported that more than 2,700 people remain on the left bank of the Oskil River in Kupiansk District. In the Borova community near Izyum, where mandatory evacuations of families with children are ongoing, 79 children still need to be evacuated.
The governor described the security situation in this area as "extremely tense," with dropping evacuation rates.
