The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the movement of ships of the Russian invaders in the direction of the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa, in a daily briefing on Mar. 3.
“In the Black Sea, we are observing the movement in the direction of Odesa of the landing detachment of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, consisting of four large landing ships, accompanied by three missile boats,” the message reads.
Odesa has been under blockade and shelling since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and is one of Ukraine’s main port cities. Russian naval groups have been active in the Black Sea since prior to the invasion.
Turkey has invoked the Montreux Convention to bar passage to Russian ships through the Bosphorus Strait, which connected the Black Sea to the Mediterranean.
