Russian troops enter Toretsk in Donetsk Oblast
The situation in Toretsk, Donetsk Oblast, remains dire, with Russian forces entering the eastern part of the city, Ukrainian military spokesperson Anastasia Bobovnikova told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Oct. 7.
She described the ongoing fighting in the city as fierce, with battles "literally for every entrance."
“The hottest spot right now is the Toretsk direction,” said Bobovnikova.
“The fighting is happening within Toretsk itself. The situation is unstable, with battles being fought literally for every entrance.”
She added that it’s difficult to evaluate how much of the city is now under enemy control, as the positions of the opposing militaries are fluid, with multiple counterattacks in progress every day.
“The Russians have entered the eastern outskirts of the city and have advanced somewhat along Central Street, heading toward the Central mine,” Bobovnikova added.
“But the situation is constantly changing — at times, we overrun their positions, and at others, they destroy ours. However, we continuously restore our positions and strive to reclaim what the occupiers have taken, preventing them from advancing.”
Russian forces remain focused on capturing Pokrovsk, Kurakhiv, Kupyansk, Lyman, and Toretsk in eastern Ukraine.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
