A Russian drone struck near a checkpoint in Ukraine’s Chernihiv Oblast on March 15, killing one serviceman, wounding others, and injuring a police officer, Chernihiv City Military Administration head Dmytro Bryzhynskyi reported.
The strike hit close to a checkpoint in the village of Novoselivka, Kyselivka municipality, Chernihiv district.
“As a result of the strike there is one fatality and wounded among servicemen, and a police officer was also injured,” Bryzhynskyi stated. “At the scene, detonation of unidentified explosive devices dropped from the UAV is ongoing.”
Emergency services are working at the attack site.
Earlier, Bryzhynskyi reported a Russian drone strike near a checkpoint in a neighboring municipality, saying two servicemen were wounded and receiving medical aid.
An air raid alert had been declared in Chernihiv Oblast earlier due to the drone threat. Bryzhynskyi later said air defenses were active in Chernihiv and urged residents to stay in safe locations.
He subsequently reported that UAV debris fell on a household plot on the outskirts of Chernihiv with no damage or casualties.
As of the morning of March 15, regional governor Vyacheslav Chaus reported 25 shellings and 33 explosions recorded in Chernihiv Oblast on March 14.
