Russians claim Ukrainian pilot surrendered in Kursk Oblast; Air Force denies allegation

29 December 2024, 07:46 PM

Russian propagandists, citing security forces via state news agency TASS, claimed on Dec. 29 that Ukrainian pilot Volodymyr Popovych allegedly surrendered in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.

Ukraine’s Air Force dismissed the report, stating that the information about a captured Ukrainian pilot is false. They emphasized that all Ukrainian pilots continue to carry out their missions defending the country.

At the same time, the Air Force acknowledged that instances of military aviators being taken prisoner do occur.

“Enemy reports and videos of interrogations of captured Ukrainian servicemembers are part of the information warfare conducted by the aggressor. The dissemination of such materials aims to demoralize Ukrainian troops and the civilian population and to influence public opinion both within Ukraine and abroad,” the statement said.
