Moscow-controlled troops from the so-called “people’s republics” in the Donbas were involved  in a skirmish with regular Russian soldiers in Nova Kakhovka, near the city of Kherson, Mykolaiv Oblast Governor Vitaly Kim said on April 17.

“Yesterday in Nova Kakhovka, there was a significant skirmish between (militias) and either the Russian military or RosGuard (the Russian National Guard) – I’m not certain,” Kim said in a video posted on the Telegram messenger service.

“I’m at a loss as to whom I should cheer on in this situation.”

According to Kim, the stalling of Russian offensives in Ukraine are leading to witch hunts in the Russian military command to find scapegoats to blame for their failures.

Earlier media reports suggested there are purges going on in Russia’s FSBsecurity service after it failed to provide Moscow with accurate information about Ukraine’s ability and will to resist the invasion.

And on April 16 Ukrainian intelligence said that Edward Basurin, a leader of Russian proxy forces in the non-government-controlled part of Donetsk Oblast, was “taken away to an unknown location” by the FSB, after he blurted out Russian plans to use chemical weapons in Mariupol ahead of the suspected attack.
