SBU drone attack on Russian ‘polling station’ in Kamianka-Dniprovska results in numerous casualties
Ukraine’s SBU security service carried out a drone attack on a polling station in the Russian-occupied town of Kamianka-Dniprovska, in western Zaporizhzhia Oblast on Aug. 29, NV sources within the SBU have reported.
The attack came as local election commission heads from across the district gathered for a meeting at the polling station, the SBU said. It said there were numerous casualties as a result of the attack.
Over 30 collaborators, guarded by Russian soldiers, including fighters of Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov, were intending to distribute "ballots" and setup voting booths in preparation for sham "elections" in the Russian-occupied part of the oblast. The sham elections were scheduled for Sept. 10.
The SBU said it used precision strike drones, sweeping in in multiple waves, to carry out the attack. Details about the exact results of the strike "will become assessable later," the SBU said.
Russian military units are now encircling the town, utilizing electronic warfare systems, anti-aircraft defenses, and other measures. However, the sources indicate that their ability to safeguard the collaborators appears to be limited to verbal assurances only.
"The successful operation by the SBU underscores as another warning to all collaborators working for Russia, putting their lives and safety at stake," NV's sources said.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate or HUR revealed that a kamikaze drone flew into the window of the apartment of "deputy chairman" of the occupational "military-civil administration" of Kamianka-Dniprovska, Oleksandr Reimer, at around 6 a.m. on Aug. 24. As a result he was wounded and hospitalized.
The HUR said it had helped local resistance fighters carry out the attack.
