There are many people dead or missing on the Russian occupied east bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast after the Russian army blew up the Kakhovka dam, regional administration spokesperson Oleksandr Tolokonnikov said on Radio Svoboda on June 14.

"There are lots of reports about missing people on the left bank of the Dnipro River. We can't officially confirm that they are dead. However, we have also been receiving lots of messages from locals who can see dead people through the windows in their homes," he said.

They are waiting for the support of the international community so they can be assured that a "green corridor" will actually be safe, he added.

"We need it (international help) in order to help people staying there and, maybe, in order to exhume bodies from there," the spokesperson said.

Ten people have reportedly died, 20 have been injured, and 42 remain missing on the Ukrainian-held right (western) bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast due to the Kakhovka dam breach, according to Ukrainian officials.

The mayor of the Russia occupied town of Oleshky, Yevhen Ryshchuk, reported nine people died in his town because of the Russian terror act.

The water in Kherson Oblast is muddy, Tolokonnikov said. Samples have shown elevated iron levels in the water. However, no cases of intestinal or other infections have been reported on the Ukrainian-held right bank.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
