Public outrage in Poland over the recent transfer of five Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine is “absurd,” Sejm Speaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty said on Aug. 20.

Czarzasty made the remarks in an interview on TVN24, criticizing what he called irresponsible political agitation over the move.

“How many irresponsible Polish politicians have sparred over this,” he said.

“What an incitement of people. At first this story looked as if we were disarming in favor of Ukraine. That's absurd.”

He said continued support for Ukraine is in Poland’s own interest, noting that "Europe, Poland, and the United States provide financial and military aid, while Ukrainians are ‘giving blood."

Czarzasty cited economic and workforce contributions by Ukrainians in Poland, saying they make up 5 percent of all labor in the country and account for 2.7 percent of Poland's GDP.

He said Ukrainians paid PLN25 billion ($6.76 billion) in personal income tax in 2025, PLN13 billion in contributions to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), and PLN3.8 billion to the National Health Fund (NFZ). Poland’s health-care costs for Ukrainians, he said, amounted to PLN2.3 billion.

"Why spread these foolish stories that we're robbing Poles and giving everything to Ukrainians? Don't let yourselves be manipulated," Czarzasty said.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
