Relentless Russian artillery fire is wreaking havoc on the city of Severodonetsk, 70% of which already lies in ruins, head of the municipal administration, Oleksandr Stryuk, told Ukrainian TV channels on April 16.
“The city is almost 70% destroyed now,” said Stryuk.
“Newer districts will have to be completely rebuilt; they are unfit for habitation.”
According to the official, the city is under constant, intense fire, it’s possible to only deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate people. Around 20,000 people remain in Severodonetsk out of 135,000 total residents, Stryuk said.
On April 15, Russians destroyed two food warehouses and water pipes in the city.
