Ukraine has tripled its munitions production in 2023, with every second shell in the combat zone being of Ukrainian origin, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced during a government meeting on Oct. 1.

The country is also implementing a missile program and is significantly increasing the production of artillery systems and armored vehicles.

"Every day we work with partners to increase weapons supplies and strengthen the development of our own defense-industrial complex," Shmyhal said.

“In 2023, weapons production in Ukraine has tripled. Every second shell in the combat zone is Ukrainian. By the end of the year, we will produce 1.5 million drones.”

Ukraine is establishing joint weapons production with partners and is also involving partners in purchasing Ukrainian weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the official added.

Ukraine plans to create underground production facilities for manufacturing weapons and ammunition to reduce dependence on possible delays in supplies from international partners, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Sept. 6.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi told CNN on Sept. 9 that the gap in the use of ammunition on the battlefield between the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Russian military has significantly narrowed.

Ukraine has begun its own production of 155-mm artillery rounds, presidential advisor on strategic issues Alexander Kamyshin reported on Sept. 15.
