Ukraine's SAPO seeks bail for MP Skorokhod

Ukraine's Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office will seek a pre-trial restriction in the form of bail for MP Anna Skorokhod, suspected of inciting a bribe to influence the application of National Security and Defense Council sanctions against a competitor company, SAPO's press service said in a comment to news outlet Ukrainska Pravda on Dec. 9.
The prosecutors did not disclose the bail amount to the agency. The hearing on selecting the pre-trial restriction is scheduled for Dec. 9.
Skorokhod herself published a video on Facebook, also mentioning SAPO's motion for a pre-trial measure. The lawmaker stated she intends to prove in court that the case against her is "fabricated."
On Dec. 8, it was reported that Skorokhod appeared for questioning at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine in the case of extorting money from business.
On Dec. 5, NABU and Ukraine’s SBU Security Service conducted searches at Skorokhod's home, announcing the exposure of a criminal group led by the legislator. According to investigators, Skorokhod and her aide offered a business representative $250,000 to arrange NSDC sanctions against a competitor company. Several intermediaries were involved in the scheme, but the money was not passed to NSDC representatives.
On Dec. 7, the High Anti-Corruption Court remanded a lawmaker's accomplice in custody with an alternative of 4.5 million hryvnia ($106,528) bail; he is suspected of inciting the bribe.
Skorokhod stated that all NABU photos are "fabricated." According to her, NABU "spread information that does not correspond to reality." After the search, as Skorokhod says, the Bureau published photos showing money and an unfamiliar apartment.
