Russian drones blackout Slavutych, endanger Chornobyl
Most residential consumers in the city of Slavutych remain without electricity following a massive Russian drone strike on the evening of Oct, 1, Kyiv Oblast Governor Mykola Kalashnyk reported on Telegram the following morning.
Emergency efforts are ongoing to restore power across the city.
Critical infrastructure, including schools, shops, pharmacies, banks, and gas stations, has already been reconnected, and the water supply has been restored.
“In general, most residential buildings are still without power. Efforts are underway to bring cogeneration plants online,” Kalashnyk said, adding that 10 emergency centers and mobile tents of the State Emergency Service are operating in the city.
The Russian drone attack targeted an energy facility, leaving around 20,000 residents without electricity.
The Energy Ministry also reported a temporary power outage at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, specifically at the New Safe Confinement structure that isolates the destroyed fourth reactor and prevents the release of radioactive materials. Power to the station was fully restored after approximately three hours.
