Madrid has approved a deal to produce and deliver a Lanza LTR-25 long-range tactical radar system to Ukraine, the Spanish government announced on Jan. 14.

Under the agreement, valued at EUR37 million ($43 million), Spain will supply the radar from the contract’s signing through Dec. 31, 2026, with no option for extension. The system is intended to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses.

Lanza LTR-25 is a three-dimensional, mobile radar station capable of detecting and tracking conventional aircraft as well as small, low-observable objects such as drones and cruise missiles. It can identify targets at ranges exceeding 450 kilometers. When integrated with broader air defense network using NATO equipment, it can relay real-time coordinates to air dispersed defense units.

In November 2025, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a joint project with Spanish defense firms to supply Ukraine with long-range radars. At that time, the two governments signed five bilateral agreements covering defense cooperation.
