Spain has handed over the first HAWK anti-aircraft surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine, and is going to train Ukrainian troops, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said in a Twitter post on Dec. 2.
Reznikov met with his Spanish counterpart Margarita Robles in Odesa. The ministers paid tribute to the heroes who fell in battles for Ukraine, and visited recovering Ukrainian soldiers at a local hospital.
Earlier, Spain approved the transfer of a military assistance package to Ukraine, which includes an Aspide anti-aircraft missile system battery and missiles for it, as well as four HAWK air defense systems. On Nov. 10, Robles announced that Spain would send two more HAWKs to Ukraine.
To supplement them, the United States has supplied anti-air missiles for HAWK batteries.
