The visit by Crown Princess Victoria took place on May 11, and had not been announced in advance. The exercises are being held on the island of Gotland.
“She was offered a private tour of Sweden’s most modern garrison area,” communications manager Thomas Engshammar said.
During the visit, Victoria was welcomed at the exercises by Sweden’s commander-in-chief, Gen. Michael Claesson. The visit began at the Tofta firing range, where live-fire demonstrations were taking place. The crown princess later greeted participating units as well as conscripts stationed on Gotland.
The future queen later boarded the military vessel HMS Carlskrona, where a seminar titled “The Strategic Importance of Gotland” was held. The evening concluded with a dinner aboard the ship.
About 18,000 Swedish and foreign troops are taking part in the Aurora 26 exercises. The drills involve units from the army, navy, air force and Home Guard, along with other Swedish combat forces. Military units from 12 countries are also participating. Photos from the exercises show Ukraine represented by fighters from the National Guard of Ukraine, including the Azov Brigade.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
