Ukraine's justice minister assures data recovery after Russian cyber attack on state registries
All data in the state registries affected by the recent Russian cyber attack will be restored, and there is no evidence of a personal data leak, Justice Minister Olga Stefanishyna said on Dec. 20, according to news agency Interfax-Ukraine.
"All data that was in the Ministry of Justice has been preserved and will be restored," said the official.
“The registries will be restored; all data will be restored. It is a matter of time.”
"I have received information from the Head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection that there is no confirmation of a data leak at this time," she added.
However, acting Head of the Cybersecurity Department of the SBU Security Service Volodymyr Karastelyov noted that the service cannot yet refute the information about the data leak, as an investigation is ongoing.
"After obtaining all the necessary data, we will provide you with all the information," he said.
Stefanishyna reported on Dec. 19 the largest cyber attack on Ukrainian state registries in recent times. She highlighted that the priority for restoration includes:
- The State Registry of Civil Status Acts of Citizens
- The Unified State Registry of Legal Entities and Sole Proprietors
- The State Registry of Property Rights and Their Encumbrances
The initial restoration process is expected to take up to two weeks.
