Trump and Harris poll ratings level before final debate stage
U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump is virtually tied
with his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris, with 48% to 47%, according
to a poll of likely voters conducted by The New York Times and Siena College.
Trump’s rating has largely remained unchanged compared to
the Times/Siena poll conducted in late July, right after incumbent President
Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election.
The NYT notes that nationwide results mirror polls in seven “swing”
states that will determine the presidential election outcome, where Harris is
either tied with Trump or has a slight advantage, according to average polling
data.
Additionally, the poll highlights the risks and potential
benefits for the U.S. presidential candidates ahead of their debates on ABC
News scheduled for Sept. 10.
The poll showed that 28% of likely voters said they need to
learn more about Harris, while 9% said they need more information about Trump.

On July 21, U.S. President Joe Biden announced he was
withdrawing from the Nov. 5, 2024, election. He also proposed Kamala Harris as
the Democratic candidate. She has expressed willingness to participate in the
election.
On July 22, it was reported that all 50 Democratic Partystate chairs supported Kamala Harris as the new presidential candidate for theparty.
On Aug. 2, Harris secured the necessary number of delegate
votes to officially become the Democratic presidential candidate.
On Aug. 15, Harris campaign representative Michael Tyler
stated that she would participate in two debates with Trump.
On Aug. 22, Kamala Harris officially confirmed her intention
to run for president as the Democratic candidate.
On Sept. 7, Politico reported that some high-ranking
Republicans fear Trump might lose his chance to regain his footing in the
presidential race during debates with Harris, especially if he resorts to
personal attacks.
