Trump backs Zelenskyy–Putin meeting

President Donald Trump, commenting on an open
letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Russian dictator
Vladimir Putin, said he would welcome talks to end the war in Ukraine and that
“it would be great if they met.”
“I'm glad that they're maybe talking about meeting. I think we had a lot to do with it,” Trump said on June 4, shortly after the letter was published on Zelenskyy’s official website.
“I think it would be great if they met. They should get it done.”
He added that both Kyiv and Moscow would have to make concessions in any potential peace talks, suggesting that the United States played a role in bridging the two opposing positions.
“They're going to make compromises. I suggested those compromises, and we've had a lot to do with it,” said Trump.
“They've got to stop. Last month they had 25,000 people killed, soldiers, mostly soldiers. It's been averaging probably almost 25,000 people every month of soldiers killed. I want them to make certain compromises.”
In the letter, Zelenskyy invited Putin to negotiate peace face-to-face, meeting in a neutral country.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed the letter is a
“serious and meaningful proposal to end the war.”
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
