Trump ‘hugely impressed’ by Ukraine’s long-range strikes on Russia — FT

U.S. President Donald Trump was “hugely impressed” by Ukraine’s sustained campaign of long‑range strikes
targeting
Russian industry during last week’s G7 summit in
France, the Financial Times reported
on June 23, citing people familiar with the matter.
Two people told the FT that Trump also agreed to tighten sanctions on Russia’s energy sector. The report said that while U.S. intelligence assessed in March that Russia held the advantage in the war, European diplomats have noticed a shift in Washington’s view in recent months and no longer consider Moscow to be winning.
“Senior Ukrainian administration officials have told the FT they see signs that Trump is warming to stronger support for Kyiv and may be more willing to pressure Russia to end its war,” the report said.
“They remain sceptical about the U.S. president’s follow-through, noting that he had made promises before that he did not keep and his history of speaking flatteringly about [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin.”
After Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s meeting with Trump and other leaders, the officials said there was cautious optimism about progress on supplying interceptor missiles for the Patriot air‑defense systems and on licensing Western weaponry. One person familiar with the discussions said final decisions would depend on further talks between Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, and U.S. officials.
The FT report said Zelenskiy and Trump held a lengthy dinner
conversation in Evian‑les‑Bains last week, during which the
U.S. president noted Ukraine’s “military
results,” according to people familiar with the meeting.
