Geneva talks begin; Europe scrambles to amend Trump’s peace plan; protests in Washington

Between Ukraine itself, the European Union, and the U.S. policymaking realm, the U.S.-brokered so-called “peace plan” dominated the news on Nov. 23.
The Ukrainian delegation, led by head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak, arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, for a long series of meetings with European and U.S. officials to try and negotiate on the most Russia-favored provisions of the 28-point “peace plan” Washington is pressing Kyiv to accept.
European leaders, several of whom are gathered at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, are looking to influence U.S. President Donald Trump to amend the peace deal in Kyiv’s favor before the Nov. 27 deadline previously outlined by the White House. After a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, UK PM Keir Starmer called Trump to try and convince him to back away from limiting the size of the Ukrainian military and other provisions that would make Ukraine vulnerable to future Russian aggression.
Americans continue to resist Trump’s policy priorities: protests in the U.S. capital continue, further fueled by the apparent attempt to force a Ukrainian capitulation. After the U.S. administration has thrown its weight behind Moscow’s maximalist wargoals, some U.S. citizens protesting in Washington are calling out their president for “selling out Ukraine.”
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
