Steve Witkoff, special representative of U.S. President
Donald Trump, will visit Türkiye on Nov. 18 and hold talks with Ukrainian
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Reuters journalist Guy Faulconbridge reported,
citing a Turkish source.
Zelenskyy had earlier announced plans to hold key
international meetings this week in Spain and Türkiye, focusing on support for
Ukraine, accelerating the end of the war, and restarting prisoner exchanges.
On Nov. 19, the president is expected to hold meetings in
Türkiye, where Ukraine plans to present prepared proposals and push forward the
negotiation process.
“One of our top priorities remains accelerating the end of
the war, as well as resuming exchanges and returning our prisoners,” Zelenskyy
said.
On Nov. 11, National Security and Defense Council Secretary
Rustem Umerov said he would travel to Türkiye and the Middle East in the coming
days to unblock the stalled prisoner exchange process. His visit followed a
major corruption scandal uncovered by NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors in
Ukraine’s energy sector.
In its Sept. 5 report, analysts from the Institute for the
Study of War said Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to sabotage peace
efforts with Ukraine by repeating false claims about Zelenskyy’s “illegitimacy”
and blaming Kyiv for the lack of progress in negotiations.
