Trump: Ukraine ‘can forget’ about NATO
Based on the ongoing U.S.-Russia talks, Kyiv must abandon its NATO membership aspirations, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Feb. 26.
During his first Cabinet meeting, the U.S. president repeated the Kremlin’s talking point about the 2022 invasion being primarily driven by Ukraine’s policy of joining the alliance.
"Yes, [Putin will have to make concessions]... NATO — you can forget about — I think that’s why it all started,” Trump claimed.
He further added that the war would have ended "quickly" without U.S. weapons.
“Ukrainians are good fighters, but without American equipment — we have the best equipment in the world — it would have ended very quickly,” he noted, once again echoing the sentiment routinely expressed by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
On Feb. 17, Trump expressed doubt that Russia would attack NATO countries in the future.
Earlier, European politicians and intelligence services had already warned of the threat of an attack by Russia on the alliance, which could occur in the coming years. On Jan. 23, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that there is a possibility of Russia attempting to attack NATO countries in 2029-2030.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
