U.S. asks Ukraine to help defend against Shahed drones

Washington asked for Ukrainian technical
assistance and expertise in setting up a cost-effective defense against
cheap Iranian drones in the Middle East, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on
March 5.
Zelenskyy said he has ordered that the necessary equipment be provided, along with Ukrainian specialists to train partner forces.
“Ukraine helps partners who help our security and the protection of the lives of our people,” the president said.
U.S. President Donald Trump also told Reuters he would “take any assistance from any country” when asked about Kyiv’s earlier offer to help the Gulf states defend against Shahed drones, which Russia has been attacking Ukraine with for over three years.
On March 4, Zelenskyy said he had instructed the foreign minister, the defense minister, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and Ukraine's military commands and intelligence services to develop options for supporting Middle East countries in ways that would not weaken Ukraine's defenses.
The president also suggested Ukraine could trade interceptor
drones for Patriot interceptor missiles. He said countries in the Persian Gulf
have PAC-3 missiles, but it would be impractical to use them to shoot down
Iranian drones. Ukraine could provide interceptor drones in exchange for
missiles it currently lacks, he said.
