Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said he received assurances from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that U.S. weapons bought for Ukraine by European allies will not be redirected to the Middle East.

Sybiha made the comment after an informal off-site meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Kyiv.

“I recently returned from a G7 meeting in Paris,” Interfax-Ukraine news agency quoted the minister.

“I had a brief conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. We received assurances that at this stage there is no talk of redirecting this assistance to other regions.”

On March 26, The Washington Post, citing sources, reported that the Pentagon was considering diverting air defense missiles intended for Ukraine to the Middle East as the war with Iran depletes U.S. military stocks.

Later, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said that despite the Iran war, U.S. weapons will continue to reach Ukraine under the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) mechanism.
