U.S. Embassy closure not linked to Kremlin’s nuclear rhetoric
The closure of the U.S. embassy in Kyiv is related to the
threat of a combined drone and missile attack, not the escalation of Russia’s
nuclear rhetoric.
The embassy confirmed this to NV, noting that its actions
are not connected to the approval of Russia’s new nuclear doctrine.
“The embassy closure is related to air alerts, including an
increased potential threat of a combined drone and missile attack, as has
occurred recently. We continue to monitor the situation, working with our
Ukrainian partners,” a diplomatic source said.
The embassy emphasized that this is a temporary change, with
plans to return to normal operations soon.
Due to the threat of massive shelling, four embassies in
Kyiv suspended operations: the U.S., Italy, Spain, and Greece.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Counteracting
Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), commented
on the U.S. embassy’s statement, noting that Russia has accumulated many
missiles for a new large-scale attack on Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Navy reported in the morning that the
aggressor country is keeping six ships in the Black Sea, armed with Kalibr
cruise missiles, capable of launching up to 23 missiles in a single salvo.
