The United States continues to provide Ukraine with incomplete and contradictory intelligence about incoming Russian attacks, Ukrainian presidential adviser Serhii Beskrestnov said in an interview with the BBC on Oct. 19.

“This looks very strange; sometimes we receive this information before an attack begins, and sometimes we don’t,” Beskrestnov said.

“For example, we received it last night, but ... one minute before the attack started.”

He noted that overall cooperation with the United States is continuing. According to Beskrestnov, intelligence data is still being provided, and the problem is limited to the missile threat warning system.

“Perhaps the United States is trying to tell us: ‘Let’s talk, let’s negotiate with Russia. You should find a compromise,” he said.

Beskrestnov also said Ukraine has its own radar data, which allows it to issue limited warnings about incoming attacks. However, he said Ukraine is urgently examining the possibility of using alternative communications systems.

“We now understand that something is beginning to happen with Starlink, and we are not sure what the next step will be,” he added.

One person was killed and eight others were injured in Kyiv during the Oct. 19 attack. Damage was reported in three districts. Infrastructure on the red line of the Kyiv Metro was damaged on the city’s left bank. In the Solomyanskyi district, a 25-story building, a medical facility, and a shopping mall were damaged.

Alex Raufoglu, a journalist with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, reported that the United States again failed to warn Ukraine overnight about Russia’s use of ballistic missiles.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
