U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll praised Ukraine’s Delta
battle-management system, saying it brings together drones, sensors,
intelligence, and strike platforms into a single, real-time data network.
Driscoll made the comment on May 14 during a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Military Times reported.
Delta’s ability to “integrate every single drone, every sensor and every shooting platform into just one single network” was a particular strength, Driscoll said.
“For decades our budget process incentivized companies to protect their intellectual property at all costs,” he said about the U.S. military, adding that the approach has “created walled gardens” when it comes to command-and-control.
Driscoll also said Ukrainian experts showed U.S. forces at
recent joint training in Germany how they approach modern warfare, including
drone employment and networked fire control. “We learned a lot from the
Ukrainians,” he said. “Two weeks ago we conducted joint exercises in Germany,
and the Ukrainians sent their best specialists to show us how they would
fight.”
