Fire at Vinnytsia infrastructure site caused by UAV wreckage
A fire erupted at a crucial infrastructure site in Vinnytsia Oblast due to fragments from a downed Russian UAV, Serhiy Borzov, the head of the Vinnytsia Oblast Administration, reported on the night of June 1.
The Ministry of Ukrainian Internal Affairs later showcased the damage from the enemy attack. Rescuers managed to extinguish a fire covering 600 square meters, thankfully without any casualties.
This incident is part of a broader assault on Ukraine’s energy system that occurred simultaneously across several regions on June 1. The Ukrainian Air Force observed the launch of Russian Tu-95MS strategic bombers, which, along with missiles from the Black Sea and additional UAVs, coordinated attacks across Ukraine.
The Ministry of Energy noted that five oblasts were targeted, significantly impacting Ukraine's energy infrastructure. DTEK, a major Ukrainian energy company, reported substantial damage to two of its thermal power plants, marking this as the sixth significant attack on the power system since March 2024.
Overall, Russian forces launched 53 missiles of various types and 47 Shahed attack UAVs against Ukrainian targets. Ukrainian air defense units responded by shooting down 81 air targets, including 35 missiles and 46 drones.
The attacks caused extensive damage to the power systems in regions including Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, and Ivano-Frankivsk. Additionally, Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhya Regional Administration, reported that an energy infrastructure facility in Zaporizhzhya was hit, resulting in traffic disruptions at the Dniprovska Hydro Power Plant.
