UK allocates $4.6 billion for Ukraine arms procurement
The United Kingdom has provided Ukraine with GBP 3.5 billion ($4.58 billion) for the purchase of UK-made military equipment, the UK government announced on Oct. 6.
The report states that a UK trade mission, which included officials from the Ministry of Defense and Department for Business and Trade, visited Kyiv to coordinate how London’s military aid will be administered. They met with the Ukrainian government and industry leaders to discuss further cooperation.
This mission extends an agreement from July, allowing Ukraine to use GBP 3.5 billion for arms purchases.
“Whilst there the minister discussed the UK’s steadfast support for Ukraine as long as it takes, the ever-growing relationship between the UK and Ukraine’s defence industry and the government’s pledge to continue to boost investment into our own industry which will in turn support Ukraine’s fight,” the statement said.
The message added that the MoD has already signed contracts with Thales and Sheffield Forgemasters to manufacture anti-air missiles and artillery components for Ukraine.
In September, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced a GBP 600 million ($780 million) aid package for Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv.
