UK, France announce joint Hormuz plan

The United Kingdom, France, and other participating countries
have developed a plan for joint enforcement of freedom of navigation in the Strait
of Hormuz, UK PM Keir Starmer announced on April 17.
“It’s good news that the Strait of Hormuz has now reopened,” Starmer wrote in a Twitter post.
“Today we announced our joint plan with France and other international partners to protect freedom of navigation. We need to see a return to peace and stability, and a permanent ceasefire.”
Earlier the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had rejected a NATO proposal to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, once again criticizing the alliance.
“They were useless when needed, a Paper Tiger!” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
Also on April 17, Iran said it was reopening the Strait of
Hormuz for the duration of the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel that was
approved April 16.
