The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with GBP210 million
($277 million) over the next two years to ensure stable supplies of nuclear
fuel for the country’s power plants, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said on
June 25.
Shmyhal announced the agreement at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk, Poland, after meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and European uranium enrichment company Urenco.
“This is an important agreement that will allow Ukraine’s nuclear generation to continue operating reliably,” Shmyhal said.
“It is the foundation for a stable and predictable energy system.”
Also at the conference, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said Ukraine received the first EUR3.2 billion ($3.64 billion) tranche of the European Union’s Ukraine Support Loan.
Lithuania announced nearly EUR10 million in additional aid,
and Finland pledged EUR40 million to NATO’s PURL (Prioritized Ukraine
Requirements List) program that channels U.S. military equipment to Ukraine.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
